For the month of November I’m listening to Building a Second Brain by Tiago Forte *. I’m going to be honest and share that I resisted this book for a long time, I’m not sure what was behind my dismissive stance but I can tell you that I’m glad I finally decided to give it go!

The concepts in this book are helping me become a better note maker, which is improving how I come up with ideas and create content.

SIDE NOTE: I’m sorry this book club update is being posted halfway through the month 🥴 My life has been hijacked by the needs of others, which has resulted in me hardly being at home or having any time to myself - when life throws you lemons you better be ready to start juggling 🍋😉🍋

Watch a short book summary

I love the book summaries that Nathan Lozeron shares on his YouTube channel Productivity Game, you can watch his summary of “Building a Second Brian” below.

A-ha moments and key take aways

This month I’m doing things a bit differently…

Inspired by Tiago’s concepts and processes behind building an external brain, I’ve decided to setup a Notion based commonplace book (as shared here), this is where I’m capturing my notes from listening to the book - chapter by chapter.

So with that in mind, I’m sharing my actual Notion page of notes - warts and all (typos / bad grammar / embarrassing spelling mistakes).

Why should you skim read my notes?

Because I’m using two techniques from the book: the process of CODE (Capture, Organise, Distil, Express); and “progressive summarisation”.

Using these techniques helps get to the essence of things that catch my attention so I can store them in a way that my future (impatient) self can use.
